Do you want a simple and easy way to give back and spread joy this holiday season? I have a great tip for you!
Let's be real… the holiday season can be extremely busy, so this activity is very simple!
Since our theme for December is spreading joy, I wanted to share with you a great way that you can do it in an easy and fun way.
The inspiration for this super simple project comes from the book Christmas Jars by Jason Wright.
Have you heard of or read it? It’s one of my favorites. It tells the story of several different people whose lives are changed by the kindness of others. One way it happens is that they receive a jar full of change from a stranger.
It is such an inspiring book with lots of great stories. It actually created a movement and has a website www.christmasjars.com. When you go there, you can read all kinds of uplifting stories of how people's lives have been changed from the kindness of strangers!
After reading Christmas Jars for the first time, I set a new tradition in our household that we would have a Christmas jar every year. At the beginning of each year, we get a mason jar and label it "Christmas Jar" and we collect all our change from the year in the jar.
Funny story: During the summer this year, my youngest son wanted to start saving money for a German Shepherd. Well, he got his own mason jar and labeled it "German Shepherd Fund." But I caught him taking change from the Christmas jar and putting it in the German Shepherd jar!
This gave us a great opportunity to talk about the purpose of the Christmas jar, how we’re helping people who really need it, and that we don’t take change from the Christmas jar!
I know it may seem late, but there is still time to get a jar and fill it with change, dollar bills, whatever you have. And the fun part is that when you have it full, take it into your car and just let the Holy Spirit guide you in who to give it to.
Or you may already have an idea who you want to give it to. It's even more fun if you can give it away anonymously.
Just let the joy of giving fill your heart this season!
